Choosing a granite colour for an Islamic headstone

The granite you choose sets the tone of the whole memorial and decides how the inscription shows up. You can preview your choice on a headstone in the 3D configurator. For a longer read on weighing up the options, see our guide to choosing the right granite for an Islamic headstone.

Black granites

Absolute Black, Star Galaxy and Blue in the Night

Black is the most requested colour for Islamic headstones, and it gives the strongest contrast for inscriptions. Absolute Black is deep and consistent with very little patterning, Star Galaxy is flecked with golden and white crystals, and Blue in the Night carries subtle blue sparkles. Gold, silver and white lettering all stand out clearly against them.

Grey granites

SA Impala, Avon Grey, Karin Grey and Abbey Grey

Grey suits families who want a calmer, more understated memorial. SA Impala is a charcoal tone with light speckles, Avon Grey is a mid-grey with fine veining, Karin Grey is a smooth light grey, and Abbey Grey has a soft, even speckle. The lighter the stone, the more it is worth checking how your chosen lettering colour reads against it in the 3D preview.

Blue and pearl granites

Blue Pearl (HQ and LG), Bahama Blue and Labrador Antique

These stones shimmer as the light changes. Blue Pearl HQ has deep blue-grey flecks and Blue Pearl LG is a darker, navy version, Bahama Blue is a true blue with soft white veining and purple undertones, and Labrador Antique is a brown-black stone with blue and silver crystals. They photograph and look different in daylight than they do indoors, so the preview is a guide rather than an exact match.

Green and deep-toned granites

Emerald Pearl and Paradiso

Emerald Pearl is a dark granite with deep green tones and pearl-like specks, while Paradiso is a dramatic mix of purple, grey and black. Both make a distinctive statement for families who want something other than black or grey.

Red and pink granites

Imperial Red, Multi Red, Aurora and Xiamen Pink (G635 and G663)

Imperial Red is a vibrant red with black and grey speckles, Multi Red is a burgundy with depth and warmth, and Aurora blends reds and greys into a marbled look. Xiamen Pink G635 is a soft blush pink with grey speckling and G663 is a warmer pink with cream and rose-coloured grains.

Warm brown and golden granites

Cats Eye and Giallo Brazilia

Cats Eye is a rich brown flecked with copper tones, and Giallo Brazilia is a warm golden stone with veins of amber and cream. They bring a lighter, warmer feel to a memorial.

How to choose between them

Start with the inscription

Gold, silver, white and black lettering are all available, and the contrast between lettering and stone is what makes a name easy to read from a distance. Dark stones with gold or white lettering give the highest contrast; lighter and more patterned stones reward a closer look at the preview before you decide.

Then consider the cemetery

Some cemeteries have rules about the material, colour or finish of a memorial, so check yours before you commit. Our information to gather before ordering lists what to have ready, and we can help you confirm what your cemetery allows.

Finally, choose the shape

Each design looks different in each stone, so browse our range of headstone designs alongside your shortlist of colours, or see how a stone looks on a kerb set.
