Getting the most from local support
How Muslim burial councils can help
Muslim burial councils and committees support families locally. They can advise on:
- the burial process
- Muslim sections within cemeteries
- practical arrangements that vary from one cemetery to another
Because they work with local cemeteries directly, they are often the quickest way to find out what applies where your loved one is buried.
When to get in touch
The best time to contact them is before you order a memorial. Ask:
- whether the cemetery has rules about the size, shape, material or finish of a headstone or kerb set
- which permit or approval is needed
The cemetery or local authority sets these rules and charges the permit fee, and we help you obtain the permit. Our guide to what to gather before ordering lists the details to have ready.
If your area is not listed
These are organisations we know of, and their contact details are their own, so please check their websites for the latest information.
If there is none near you, the cemetery office or the local authority's bereavement services can tell you the memorial rules for that cemetery. You are also welcome to contact us and we will help you work out what to ask.
For guidance on visiting and caring for a grave, see our cemetery etiquette guide.
